DPF Cleaner: The Solution for (Lightly) Contaminated Particulate Filters

The Problem

Particulate Filter Warning

Clogged particulate filter warning. A partially clogged particulate filter can be cleaned with Bardahl DPF Cleaner.

To reduce emissions and meet international environmental standards, the Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) was developed to remove soot from the exhaust gases of diesel engines. Soot is caused by the incomplete combustion of diesel fuel.

A particulate filter problem arises when ash and contamination build up in the filter, eventually clogging the pores and reducing its effectiveness. This 'clogging' will eventually lead to a significant increase in NOx emissions and fuel consumption.

Regular maintenance of the particulate filter is therefore necessary to prevent a limp mode as described above. Diesel engines with a particulate filter are equipped with an automatic regeneration program that involves injecting more fuel into the engine to achieve a higher combustion temperature and destroy the buildup of particles.

However, this can also result in the problem of unburned fuel mixing with engine oil in the lower part of the engine, potentially causing damage. Moreover, such regeneration is often not possible because many cars are used in the city and often stuck in traffic, preventing the necessary temperature for burning particles from being reached.

The Solution

That's why Bardahl has developed a DPF Cleaner, suitable for any type of engine equipped with a particulate filter. Bardahl DPF Cleaner:

  • Lowers the combustion temperature to destroy soot: soot particles normally burn at temperatures above 600°C. By the time they reach the filter, the temperature has already dropped to 300-350°C, leading to the accumulation of unburned particles on the filter. The Bardahl particulate filter cleaner burns the soot particles at a normal operating temperature of around 300°C, removing the accumulated deposits from the filter.
  • Stops clogging caused by soot accumulation.
  • Prevents damage to specific components that enable the combustion of harmful particles.
  • Prevents an increase in fuel consumption, loss of performance, and the replacement of expensive parts due to clogging of the particulate filter.
  • Burns and destroys soot in the particulate filter.
  • Extends the lifespan and proper functioning of the particulate filter.
  • Works according to the catalyst principle of chemistry; improving/accelerating the process (burning particles) without negatively affecting the process (e.g., changes in emissions).
  • Fully compatible with elastomers used in the automotive industry.

Instructions for Use

To solve particulate filter problems, you don't need to disassemble anything. Pour the contents of the DPF Cleaner into the fuel tank (30-60 liters of diesel), and the result will be noticeable after 20 minutes. Our best advice is to use this treatment every 7000km to keep the particulate filter working optimally.

If Your Particulate Filter Is Clogged?

Clogged DPF

A heavily contaminated particulate filter that is almost completely clogged or where the engine is already in limp mode needs to be professionally cleaned with Bardahl Professional DPF Cleaning Kit.

An engine that is in limp mode and can no longer rev up cannot be cleaned with just an additive. For this, Bardahl has developed the DPF Professional Cleaning. Again, the filter does not need to be disassembled. This professional cleaning is suitable for any type of engine equipped with a particulate filter.

Cleaning the Particulate Filter Goes in 3 Steps.

  1. First, the particulate filter should be cleaned using the product FAP 1. The particulate filter cleaner is added via the supplied bottle connected to the pressure differential sensor supply line.
  2. Then the system must be flushed with the product FAP 2 via the same line.
  3. Finally, the accompanying additive, FAP3, should be added to the fuel.

An important advantage is that Bardahl provides the set including an additive for the fuel tank for proper aftercare. After the cleaning while stationary logo-eco-cleaningthe entire system is actively treated with cleaning from the fuel tank. Additionally, the entire cleaning procedure takes place without disassembly.

This saves the customer time and money. You can clean particulate filters for an attractive price. This cleaning procedure is very sustainable. With Bardahl DPF Professional Cleaning Kit, no expensive parts are replaced, but maximum use is made of existing parts.
